In “For a Speck of Dust”, the player takes control of an alien civilization invading the solar system. The battle takes place against human forces, in a game where the immensity of space transforms your massive ships into tiny creatures when compared to the enormous stars and planets. You will need to use the realistic gravity of astral bodies to survie in this intergalactic war. The realistic physics and grand scales challenges you in an experience where battles feels both immense and microscopic within the solar system.

Controls:

Use the WASD keys to move your spaceship in the four cardinal directions.

Move the mouse to adjust your ship’s aiming point, left mouse button to fire your weapon. Q and E keys to switch weapons.

My submition made alone in 3 days for the Lundm Dare 56 with the theme of “tiny creatures”.

Disclaimer: Most of this game code was not made during this jam, and was either laying around in some of my unfinished projects, or is a direct copy from Sebastian Lague “Coding Adventure : Solar System” https://github.com/SebLague/Solar-System/tree/Episode_01

The theme of “small creatures” inspired me to reverse the player’s expectations: here, these small creatures are not miniature animals or fairy beings, but alien spaceships, made tiny by the imposing scale of the space around them. The central idea was to give the player the sensation of being very small in comparison to the immensity of space. Thus, the player embodies alien invaders, in an experience where everything, even the enormous warships, seems tiny compared to the vastness of the universe. This game emphasizes realistic physics, with the influence of gravity on the various elements of the game.
